Elderly assaulted in Bathurst burglary

TWO elderly people have been assaulted in an aggravated break and enter incident at Bathurst.

About 1.30am Saturday morning, an 85-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman were awoken by a noise in their home on Freestone Way.

Police have been told they were approached by two men who demanded money and car keys.

They then proceeded to assault the elderly man, causing him to fall to the ground; before assaulting the woman.

The men fled the scene, taking a car.

Detectives attached to Chifley Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

They located the car a short distance away.

The couple was taken to Bathurst Base Hospital in a stable condition and treated for numerous injuries, including cuts to the head, back and bruising to the arms and face.
