A 66-year-old male is being treated in a Sydney hospital after being attacked with a pole during a scuffle in the CBD last night.
It is believed the attack occurred around 9.30pm after an argument broke out between the victim and a 52-year-old male.
The younger man then began beating the victim with a street pole, striking his head and body several times. The victim was taken to St Vincent's Hospital and is being questioned by police today.
Meanwhile, the 52-year-old man has been charged and refused bail. He is due to face court in Parramatta later today.
It is not yet known whether the two men knew each other prior to the scuffle, which occurred outside the King Street court complex in Sydney.
"Alcohol doesn't appear to be a contributing factor here, so it seems this incident isn't related to the latest string of Sydney street violence the media has been following of late," Acting Inspector from the Sydney City local area command Christopher Breed said.
The investigation is being led by detective Sian Kench, who is appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
