LARGER-than-life AFL personality Sam Kekovich has been secured as the guest speaker for the centrepiece event of the Griffith Swans' centenary celebrations.
The former North Melbourne star will be the emcee and keynote speaker for the Swans' Team of the Century dinner at the Griffith Ex-Servicemen's Club on Saturday, April 26.
Perhaps better known as Meat and Livestock Australia's 'Lambassador' and notorious for his deadpan delivery on television and radio, Kekovich was a three-time leading goalkicker for the Kangaroos and was the club's best and fairest winner in 1969 - just his second year at the club.
He went on to play 128 games in the VFL, including four for Collingwood in his final season, before kicking off a successful media career.
"He's a bit of a drawcard for us - obviously a premiership player with North Melbourne, which a lot of people probably don't realise," Swans president Jeff Harris laughed.
"We threw a few different names around but the entertainment factor came into it - Keka appeals to a bit of a wider audience, rather than just purely footy people.
"Throw in a bit of Aussie larrikin and we should have a pretty good show."
Tickets for the Team of the Century dinner are $80 and available from Officechoice and from the Exies Sports Club.
It will be held the day after Griffith's first home game of the season, a showdown with arch rivals Leeton-Whitton under lights at Exies Oval on Anzac Day.
