Skipper Michael Clarke returned to the side, watched on by thousands of eager Australia Day supporters determined not to have their national day ruined by England.

Following the match, Alastair Cook said England should have gotten over the line. He said he felt England were in winning position throughout the game but gave credit to Australia for the win.
Winning captain Michael Clarke gave credit to the bowlers. He said both teams deserved credit for bowling well in a low-scoring game.
Aaron Finch was awarded the player of the series for his 258 runs in the five-match series. His 258 included two centuries for Australia.
