The Diggers bowled well on the first day, restricting an in-form Leagues side to just 157, but lost all momentum in the first 15 overs of the second innings, thanks to supreme bowling from Paul Plummer (4-11).
The Diggers could only manage 43 runs for the loss of five wickets and victory seems out of reach already.
However, Diggers replacement captain Jarrod Cahill said the match fell on the shoulders of three middle-order batsmen, himself included.
"Ceccato and Wade are not out and they both have to stay in for the duration of play, with one of them getting 50 or 60, and if that happens we're a chance of winning this," Cahill said. "Both those batsmen have a patient temperament and if they stay in we are a chance of steering the ship home.
"One hundred and fifty seven is certainly chaseable.
"Our bowlers did a great job to restrict Leagues to an average score, but we'll have to put our heads down on Saturday to see we get there.
"I'll come in next and my natural game is to be aggressive, but hopefully the match is in reach by that stage.
"I'll just take it to the bowlers because that's the way I naturally play.
"When you're on the back foot you have to take chances and hopefully luck is on our side this weekend."
Cahill replaces regular captain Jason Hampel (16), Diggers highest scorer on the first day, who is taking the weekend off to go away on a holiday.
Leagues' Paul Plummer said he would never assume to have a match in the bank after the first day, but said his unchanged side would go into day two with its tail up.
"Everyone's pretty keen to rip in and get them out as cheaply as possible," Plummer said.
"They've got some good batsmen to come and so we'll have to remain focused to get through their handy middle order before we can get into their tail and finish them off.
"I'm feeling pretty good and a five-for would be nice."
