Residents who gathered for the community meeting at the Ashfield Civic Centre on Monday night jeered three representatives from the Westconnex Delivery Authority about the lack of detail on the plan.

Director of transport planning Natalie Camilleri, infrastructure development manager John Betts and communication manager Ed Scully were unable to answer questions regarding access ramps to the toll road, the location of portals and emission stacks and the exact number of properties that would be affected by the construction.

However, they did confirm that between 10 metres and 20 metres will be cut from the length of the National Trust-registered Ashfield Park to make a cutting two lanes wide for a seven-metre portal.

Residents argued for the project to be scrapped in favour of improved public transport, saying a train trip from Penrith to the CBD would be quicker than the time taken driving on the WestConnex motorway.

They are also demanding to see more detail about the project before the initial community consultation period ends on February 17.

Residents expressed frustration that they had been given a deadline to respond to a plan so vague on specifics.

The representatives from WestConnex said more detail would be available after the completion of their environmental impact statement in 12 months' time.

Residents whose homes were not earmarked for demolition but are close to the new motorway also raised concerns about how it would affect the value of their houses.

The Westconnex Delivery Authority has said repeatedly there will be no financial compensation for people affected by the development unless their property is compulsorily acquired.

In that instance, they will be paid market value.
