HANWOOD FC has secured a major coup, signing what is believed to be one of the most lucrative sponsorship deals in Griffith sport with poultry producer Steggles.
The Hanwood-based company's logo will be placed on the front of HFC's shirts next year for every grade, from the under 6s right up to the first-grade men's and women's sides.
Such a deal, and one of this magnitude, is thought to be unprecedented in local sport.
Steggles managing director Simon Camelleri said it was a natural choice for the company to partner with Hanwood FC.
"The Hanwood and Griffith community and township has welcomed us warmly since the acquisition of the Bartter business," he said. "It is a very important region and hub for our company and we feel it is only right that if we can assist in any way to support the local community, we will do so."
The move will see Hanwood FC channel the majority of the funds into the club's youth program.
HFC's Brian Bertolin said the club was "very grateful" for Steggles' generous support, which he said gives Hanwood a "whole club feel".
"What our goal was when we met earlier in the year was we wanted to see the club all as one, and in the same gear," he said.
"This obviously enables us to do that and gives us a real whole club feel.
"We're talking about a national brand and it's a big thing to have that on your shirt, especially for the youngsters who will wear the exact same thing as the first-graders they look up to.
"I'm not aware of any clubs that have been able to secure a sponsor from top to bottom like this.
"You're talking potentially 20 teams there, not like a rugby league club that might have firsts, reserves, women's, 18s and 16s.
"This is 20 sides decked out in the same gear. For that, we're very grateful and excited to have Steggles on board."
