With beautiful sunny skies overhead and a smorgasbord of activities on offer, hundreds of Griffith’s littlest citizens proved that on Saturday when they turned out for the annual Children’s Festival in Memorial Park.
Presented by Griffith Combined Children Services Advisory Committee, festival coordinator Margaret Andreazza said it was good to see around 600 people enjoy the day.
“It was fantastic,” Mrs Andreazza said.
“As always, the merry-go-round and jumping castle were popular and we saw lots of painted faces.
“Children’s author Caroline Tuohey did some reading and the kids were rapt with that.
“The idea was for us to showcase early childhood services in Griffith and offer families a fun day out.”
The festival has been running in Griffith for more than 20 years and for the first time schools were involved.
A representative from each of the public schools in the Griffith Community of Schools and St Pat’s used the day to promote their schools.
Griffith North Public School principal and Griffith Community of Schools committee member Susan Bourne said her first-time involvement was extremely positive.
“It was a good opportunity for us to promote public education in Griffith,” she said.
“It was a lovely day and nice to be able to join in.”
In a combined effort by the public schools, three murals were created on the day, with children invited to add their handprints and painting to make the colourful artwork.
The murals will be presented to three Griffith preschools.
Meanwhile, St Pat’s showcased their music program.
Next year the Children’s Festival will be held on Saturday, October 25.
