THREE local basketballers have been honoured with Country NSW selection for the prestigious Pacific Coast Slam to be held at the start of next year.
Blake Schaefer (17 boys) and Josh Ellis (15 boys) will feature in the tournament for the second consecutive year, while Keira Argus (15 girls) has been selected for the first time.
The Pacific Coast Slam includes representative teams from Australia and New Zealand and will tip off at the Port Macquarie Sports Stadium on January 13.
Three more Griffith juniors and a refereree were at Port Macquarie for the under 12s jamboree camp over the school holidays, which led to Abby Favell gaining selection to represent Country NSW at the Great Murray River Jamboree in Albury, which starts on November 30.
Meanwhile, junior basketball in Griffith has enjoyed a very successful reintroduction of the Aussie Hoops program this season.
With plenty of helpers to administer the program, the eight-week course is three weeks from completion.
Ages have ranged from as low as five to nine years of age, and the highlight of the program was the free clinic during the school holidays when 65 kids turned up to the session.
The junior competition held on Thursday afternoons has restarted for the final leg of the spring competition, with the under 11 boys leading the way with an abundance of players this comp.
The 11 girls have settled into their games and of late they have been very close.
Though the competition is halfway through, there are still spaces available for interested basketballers in this age group.
