A YENDA animal lover has warned other pet owners to be on high alert after her cat was shot with two air rifle slugs this week.
Leaver Street resident Libby Flood, who lost her other cat during the March floods, noticed her moggy, Charlie, walking gingerly in the garden on Monday morning.
After initially thinking he had eaten a bait, Ms Flood took Charlie to Griffith Vet Hospital, where the vet removed a bullet from near his hip.
“I couldn’t believe it, I was just shocked,” Ms Flood said.
“Any firearm has the potential to kill and it’s just cruel; I can’t see why anyone would do it – he’s a harmless cat.”
Another slug was lodged inside Charlie’s body and was unable to be removed.
“He’s going to survive but he’s extremely lucky,” Ms Flood said.
“I just want to let others know that there are people like this out there.”
Ms Flood has reported the incident to police.
Anyone with information about the attack should call Griffith Police on 6969 4299.
