Around 100 students from years 7 to 12 will bring Fame:The Musical to life on stage at the Griffith Regional Theatre.

The show follows the story of a group of teens who have enrolled in a performing arts school in New York in the early 1980s.

Director Don Hillam said the show, set to highlight the many talents of students both onstage and behind the scenes, was coming together well.

“This musical was written after the success of the movie of the same name and successful TV series.

The entire musical score has been re-written except for the signature tune,” he said.

“We are doing technical rehearsals now, so it’s just a matter of fine-tuning everything, putting all the bells and whistles on.”

With plenty of tickets still available for tomorrow’s opening night performance and Saturday’s matinee show, producer Belinda Aventi said this was a show not to miss.

“This is one of the biggest sets locals will have seen in a while,” she said.

“There is an amazing light show too and we’ve got a full band in the pit.

“We really hope to see lots of Griffith residents come out to witness what the talented students, who have worked so hard, can do.”

With musical direction by Matt Segrave and choreography by Sacha Norsworthy, locals are being urged to get along to see a show that promises excellent music, beautiful singing and energetic dance.

Fame: The Musical will come to life on Thursday night, June 21, Friday night, June 22 and on Saturday, June 23, with both a matinee and night performance.
