The couple took over the Acacia Motel in May and they couldn’t be happier they made the move.
“We were in Adelaide for a couple of years running a motel in Murray Bridge and it was a nice rural community as well, but it hasn’t got the same atmosphere as Griffith,” Mrs Scott said.
“We were impressed with the place straight away. It’s busy, vibrant and friendly and we love it.
“Our kids from Sydney have visited and they loved City Park, the shops and the restaurants. Griffith has got a lot of great things going for it.”
The Scotts are just two of hundreds who come to the city each year to call it home despite figures released by the NSW Department of Planning and Infrustructure showing Griffith’s population is set to decline over the next 18 years.
Despite the gloomy outlook Mr and Mrs Scott say Griffith compares favourably with other centres, and they should know.
They have operated motels in Inverell, Maitland, Wollongong, Gundagai, Cooma, Warwick and Murray Bridge.
“We’ve been operating motels for 15 years and this is the only place where all of the restaurants participate in meal charge backs,” Mr Scott said.
“The support we have found from other businesses has been wonderful. We are very impressed.
“All you have to do to see that Griffith is a nice place is walk up the main street and see how friendly the cafe owners are. We were quite amazed by that.”
