Could Christina be Griffith’s Miss World?

MISS DETERMINED: Christina Sergi, 19, is keen to become Australia’s next Miss World and hopes Griffith will support her.

A GRIFFITH woman with her sights set on Australia’s next Miss World crown needs the city’s help to make her dream come true.

Christina Sergi is a NSW finalist in the competition and is keen to go all the way and represent the country.

She has already been through a rigorous interview process but online votes for the Miss World Australia People’s Choice 2012 Competition would also help her chances of progressing further.

“I applied online and they got back to me to say that I was in the NSW state finals for Miss World,” she said.

“I had to go to Sydney for an interview with a panel of three judges, which was a totally new experience for me. It was quite nerve-racking.

“I’ve done a few other things before this. In 2001, I represented the Riverina in Model Quest and made it to the final round in Sydney. I also got into one of the Miss Universe finals recently and I do Proactiv advertorials on The Morning Show and The Circle. I am also modelling for a new clothing label called Mistress of None. I just think I might as well have a go.”

Studying a bachelor of commerce at Wollongong University, the 19-year-old said she was drawn to the competition’s theme “beauty with a purpose”.

“So many people think Miss World is just a beauty pageant but it’s so much more than that,” she said.

“Miss World Australia supports the Children’s First Foundation and Variety, the children’s charity. I have a real affinity with children and I’d really like to represent Australia sponsoring and helping kids around the world.

“Because I’m studying and am so close to Sydney I’m going to grab whatever opportunity comes my way. I’m really happy just to have this experience and learn as much as I can.

“I’d love it if everyone in Griffith voted for me. You can actually vote up to 10 times a day.”
