Mr Rand is one of the latest locals to take advantage of the Big Griffith Switch discount offer, which was released last Friday.
The 15 per cent discount from Click Energy will allow members to potentially save hundreds each year – according to One Big Switch director Christopher Zinn.
Mr Rand, who was a former AGL customer, said he had managed to cut bills back over the last three quarters.
But with two young children aged three and six, his summer bill was $1600 and the latest winter bill was $920.
Mr Rand said he had managed to cut back by eliminating the electric oven and cook top and cooking off a gas camping stove.
But using One Big Switch’s online calculator, Mr Rand worked out the Click Energy deal would save him an extra $120 per quarter – or $480 per year.
“I thought it was a pretty good discount, it’s quite substantial compared to what we were on,” Mr Rand said.
“I thought the no contract was good too.”
While the deal requires a monthly payment plan, Mr Rand said the option suited his family.
“In our situation we actually pay monthly anyway so it’s no difference to us,” he said.
“I think it works better because it’d be hard to find the money for a $1600 bill every three months.”
The offer is open to anyone who joined the Big Griffith Switch and will remain open until midnight on Friday, August 23.
