WHEN Santa and Sarina Sergi came up with the idea to raise some funds for Griffith Can Assist, they hoped a few family and friends would support them.
What they never expected was to see close to 300 people turn up to enjoy high tea while helping raise a whopping $14,000.
“We are really happy. It was wonderful,” Sarina said.
“This is the first time we’ve ever done anything like this and we are overwhelmed by the support we’ve been shown.
“It was a lot of hard work but so worth it to know it is such a good cause.
“Santa’s dad is in Sydney having treatment and when she spoke to him he said he was really proud of us. It is people like him that we did this for.”
With the help of an army of Griffith cooks, a spread fit for the highest of high teas was put on at the Yoogali Club on Wednesday.
“We could not have done this by ourselves. We had a lot of help from family and friends,” Sarina said.
“We had people baking for us and others setting and cleaning up. It was a big effort.”
Griffith Can Assist president Olga Forner was stunned when the amount raised was revealed.
“I am just so overwhelmed by what these two beautiful girls have done,” she said.
“It just means that we can continue to provide support for local people when they need it most.
“I can’t thank them or the community enough.”
