In just under two weeks, Griffith residents will get the chance to jump on board a campaign that will see them score a mass discount on their energy bills.
The Big Electricity Switch Griffith, which will launch on May 31, will give locals the opportunity to band together and gain strength in numbers.
Run by The Area News in conjunction with One Big Switch, the campaign will be based on last year’s state-wide initiative that saw more than 100,000 account holders claim a 16.5 per cent discount from TRUenergy.
From the launch date, there will be a three-week sign-up period where anyone interested will be able to add their name to an online registry.
The registration period will close on Friday, June 21.
On Monday June 24, the discount offer will be released and the two weeks following will be a take-up period where participants will have the opportunity to decide whether or not they wish to take advantage of the offer.
The take-up period will close at midnight on Sunday, July 7.
One Big Switch director Christopher Zinn will be behind the campaign and said the company will do all the negotiation work – all residents have to do it sign up.
Mr Zinn said the greater the numbers, the better the offer will be.
“There’s no cost, no obligation,” Mr Zinn said.
“The intent of this is just to get people more engaged about getting a better deal on their power bills. They could do it through One Big Switch or they may choose to do it themselves.”
The way the campaign works is all registered parties will have the option to switch to the cheapest electricity provider to take advantage of the discount.
Alternatively, they can bargain with their existing provider to try to get the discount without having to switch.
