Men allegedly lied about fatal crash driver: police

Two men are accused of lying to police about who was behind the wheel when a 15-year-old boy died in a "paddock basher" rollover at Kooba last month.

Police were told the boy was driving when the fatal crash occurred on a Smith Road property just before 8pm on Sunday, February 24.

Survivors of the crash were two men, aged 24 and 23, and a 14-year-old girl, none of whom sustained serious injuries in the rollover.

Investigations into the crash commenced and police uncovered "alleged inconsistencies in relation to who was actually driving the vehicle when it crashed", a statement issued by NSW Police this morning read.

"The investigation culminated yesterday, when police arrested the two men at their workplaces in Griffith," police said.

"The 24-year-old man was interviewed and charged with being the driver involved in the crash.

"Police will not allege the 14-year-old girl committed any offence and has fully assisted investigators throughout the incident."

The 24-year-old was charged with dangerous driving causing death and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The 23-year-old was charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Both will face Griffith Local Court today.
