Redman gives Exies the edge

Cricket

A FIGHTING half-century from Exies' Justin Redman has kept his side's second grade finals campaign alive after beating Diggers in Saturday's elimination final.

Redman was one of just three batsman to register a double figure score for Exies, but his powerful innings of 62 was enough to drag his team over the line for a 50-run win at Hanwood Oval.

He came to the crease with his side struggling at 3-40 and took the innings by the scruff of the neck.

Belting two fours and one six, Redman lasted over an hour in the middle until he was caught out to leave Exies at a much safer 7-136.

Redman had formed a 30-run partnership with Josh Davis (15) but the tail gave way once the two were removed within three overs of each other.

Greg Collins was the chief destroyer for Diggers with a haul of 4-18 from his seven overs.

Needing 146 to stay in the finals, Diggers battled hard but fell short and were bowled out for 96 as five-wicket hero Glen Bock had a day out.
