The Truth hurts

BRANDON "The Truth" Vera will dish out a masterclass in mixed martial arts when he becomes the first ever UFC fighter to hit Griffith next month.

The 35-year-old light heavyweight will hold a three-hour training seminar on April 5 at RMA & Total Fitness in what will be a dream come true for UFC aficionados.

Vera has a 12-6-0 record in the world's largest mixed martial arts competition and while he has not fought since losing to Mauricio Rua in August last year, last week he declared he has rediscovered his "mojo" and will make a comeback to the sport.

Bo Smith, who helped organise the American-Filipino's visit through a mutual friend, said local fight fans will jump at the opportunity to rub shoulders with "The Truth".

"He's a main-card fighter. He's mixed it with the best of them - Randy Couture, Frank Mir," Smith said.

"Anyone who's interested that watches UFC or wants to have a go at doing it will love it.

"It's not just for people that do it. I've been to a couple of seminars myself and there were plenty of beginners, people that have never done it before.

"I went to an Anthony Perosh seminar and there was a guy's wife that came along because he was interested and she must have sat down, watched a few fights with her husband and decided to have a crack.

"She'd never done any training at all."
