Fitness the key for City

RESULTS are irrelevant for Griffith City FC coach Ross Panebianco as his men prepare for their first pre-season trial match against Hanwood FC tomorrow night.

The sides will do battle at Henderson Oval with City set to treat the friendly as a pure training exercise.

"I'm not expecting too much from our guys," Panebianco said.

"I just want them to get the boots out and clean out the cobwebs.

"Our main focus at the moment is fitness.

"You can't play football if you can't run.

"It's been so hot this summer but now the weather's changed a bit and cooled down, we can get stuck into it.

"Once we can run without breathing heavily, then we can sort out the other stuff."

Thursday night's match also marks the club debut of former Wests trio Ben Duggan, Ross Morgan and Daniel Bergamin, who all linked up with City earlier in the year.

"It's early days but I think they'll be a good addition to the club," Panebianco said.

"We're happy to have them come across and we're looking forward to them making a contribution."

Hanwood come into the match off the back of its second pre-season friendly last month, a 6-3 loss to Albury outfit Melrose.

"I'm aware they've played some decent games so I'm expecting them to be a bit more advanced," Panebianco said.

"That's okay, that's fine this is purely about fitness for us.

"We're just pleased they've agreed to the game."
