A HOST of Griffith’s best junior swimmers were on show at the Marian Catholic College swimming carnival last week with Patrick in a see-sawing battle for the house championship.

All four houses hit the front at some stage but Patrick came out on top, edging out second-placed Marcellin to win their first swimming title in three years.

The 2013 edition of the carnival saw the highest participation rate ever recorded by the school with more than 500 students participating, said sports co-ordinator Andrew Holloway.

“We’re delighted. It shows we’re building towards a strong community and the swimming carnival is one of those days the school comes together and shows its strong bond,” he said.

There were no records broken on the day but plenty of swimmers clocked lightning quick times, with Ted Jones and Eilish Aird claiming the open boys and girls championships respectively.

But it is the fashion stakes where the competition really hotted up, with some impressive and creative costumes lending plenty of colour and cheer to the carnival.
