Teen dies in rollover

POLICE will prepare a report for the coroner after a teenager was tragically killed near Griffith at the weekend.

The 15-year-old boy had been staying at a property on Smith Road, Kooba, and was joyriding in a "paddock basher" on the property with a 24-year-old male passenger when the incident occurred.

Shortly after 7.30pm on Sunday, other residents of the property ran into the paddock after they heard a loud crash.

The residents located the unregistered Daihatsu Charade in the paddock where it had rolled onto its side.

They immediately contacted emergency services.

Paramedics arrived and removed the teenager from the vehicle but he was found to be deceased.

It is believed he was killed on impact when the car rolled.

Police believe the boy's inexperience at driving played a major role in the crash.

Paramedics were initially unable to identify the teenager, who had no identification on his person.

Rural Fire Service crews also attended to ensure the site was safe.

The passenger of the car was conveyed to Griffith Base Hospital via ambulance where he was admitted for observation.

His injuries were not significant and a hospital spokeswoman confirmed the man was discharged the following day.

Police from the Griffith Local Area Command established a crime scene and the vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
