GRIFFITH tennis has kicked off season 2010 with a bang, with all competitors showing signs of form early in the season with plenty of attractive shotmaking on the night.
Last competition premiers Shud did not have it all their own way against TBC and Duncan Adams and Sophie Hicks set the pace, winning 6-4 against Ariane Ceccato and Tony Roche.
Donna Dossetor and Grace Burge punished Rosemary Risso and Monica Dissenga, however with the final result coming down to the last set, TBC lamented what might have been as Sophie Hicks and Brett Angel lost to Tony Roche and the seasoned campaigner Will Girdwood 6-4, with Shud wrapping it up 47-45.
Misfits' duo Ken Cunningham and Daniel Cox came out even in their first set against Head Hunters' Steve Sykes and Kel Harrrison as did Alex Culbert and Janelle Toole against Sandra and Theresa, however, Misfits settled and had strong wins in mixed with Cunningham, Toole and Murray Parr and Culbert doing well to easily take the win 47-35.
Young Guns showed top form against Whatever as Mark Dosseter and Patrick McMahon jumped out of the blocks against Keith Pickmere and Matt Hocking in the first set, but Pickmere fought back hard with Robyn Meehan against Dosseter and McMahon
Jess Bergamin, matching her hair, colour was on fire all night winning all her sets with Victoria Toole, Mark and Daniel Cox with Whatever confident of victory in their next clash with Young Guns when Bergamin is absent from the team.
Another close contest between Bits and Pieces saw Bernie and Lorraine Maxwell finish on five-all with Barry and Katrina Haskings.
As the scores see-sawed through the night Bhajandeep Grewal, and Maxwell were too strong for Kristy Brown and Katrina as Bits and Pieces won 43-41.
