Swimmers excel at huge meet

THE Griffith Swimming Club has not only competed but defeated some of the best in the state at the Country Regional Championships last weekend.

The Canberra meet, at which 10 of the swimmers raced, was the largest regionals ever held.

Declan Owers had a great meet, winning the 10 years 200m IM, a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke and four bronze medals; in the 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 50m backstroke and a top-five spot in the 50m freestyle.

Brooke Tilston won silver medals in both the 13 year girls 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly.

Joshua Golden swam well, claiming the silver in the 10 year boys 50m freestyle as well as finishing in the top five in the 100m breaststroke, 200m IM, 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Tegan Goldman finished the meet with a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle as well as placing in the top 10 in her 100m backstroke, 200m IM and 200m backstroke.

Corey Myott finished in the top five with his 50m butterfly, 200m IM, 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle as well as top ten in the 50m backstroke and breaststroke.

Brooke Myott swam well in her events, finishing the meet within the top five in the 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly and top 10 in the 200m IM, 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke.

Trent Goldman finished his meet with a top-10 place in the 11 years 50m butterfly before also taking six seconds off his 100m freestyle and six seconds off his 50m freestyle.

Twelve-year-ol d Erin Golden swam well, setting personal best times in her 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke.

Mea Riley swam PB times in six of her seven events.

Mea’s best swims where her 50m backstroke where she took off just over five seconds and her 100m freestyle, where she took off 4.36 seconds.

James Tilston swam well all meet with personal best times in every event. James swam particularly well in the 9 years and under 50m butterfly, taking off a massive 16 secs and in the 100m freestyle he took off 9.5 secs.

Doug and Jessica Arthur, who competed in the Gunnedah meet also had success in their events.

Doug finished the meet with four bronze medals; the 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle and a six-second PB in the 100m breaststroke.

Jessica won a silver medal in the 12 years 200m freestyle as well as two bronze medals; in the 50m backstroke and 100m butterfly.
