But the massive score is only the undefeated Blacks’ third biggest win of the season, with five of their last seven games won with no points scored from the opposing side.
There was little room for humility after so many convincing wins. Coach Ashley Gunn said his team played well.
“We did alright, but the opposition weren’t that flash. I don’t even think they got the ball at any stage,” he said.
Gunn mentioned hooker Armstrong Waremaki, inside centre Drew Braithwaite and second-rower Dave Ireland as stand-out players.
“We stuck to our structures for pretty much the entire game,” Gunn said.
“When it comes down to it, we just had too much class.”
But next week’s game against the second-ranked Waratahs will be less of a pushover, Gunn said.
“Everyone’s probably had their eye on this game for a couple of weeks,” he said.
“We’ve been building up to this game, so we’ll definitely be prepared.”
The Blacks will be working on their scrums and line-outs during the week to counter the Waratahs’ strengths.
Griffith is still strong favourites for the game, with the home-town advantage, as well as a number of players back from injury.
“We want to play a bit more of an uptempo game, using our pace out wide,” Gunn said.
“There’s a few set pieces we’ll work on during the week.”
“It’ll be a tough game, but with the way the Blacks are going, it will be the Waratahs who will be nervous running onto the field next Saturday.”
