In the inaugural year of the championships, a SIRU City team will be selected comprising of the five Wagga teams and Albury, along with a SIRU Country team made up of the remaining teams in the SIRU. These teams will take on Monaro and a Far South Coast team in a round-robin competition, to be played over the June long weekend. Despite the tournament being over six weeks away, Country coach Mark Ward is already talking up his team’s chances.”
We are expecting to remain undefeated and come out on top,” he said.
“We have no preconceived ideas about not doing well.”
As the championships fall in the middle of the SIRU season, Ward is expecting all players to be firing on all cylinders.
“The fact all players would have eight rounds under their belts will mean they are match fit and their skills should be up to scratch,” Ward said.
He is expecting Monaro and Far South Coast to provide stern competition.
