Yenda make light work of opponents

Yenda make light work of opponents

The Blueheelers downed West Wyalong 22-4 in their opening game yesterday, but in a tighter contest, narrowly beat the Black and Whites 20-12.

Poka said the things the side needed to improve would most likely come with regular play during the season.

“We struggled for a bit of cohesion today, mainly because we are just learning to play with each other,” Poka

Poka said he was able to watch Waratahs, Yenda’s likely finals opponents, earlier in the day and said their youth and enthusiasm did not hold any fears for the experienced players in his side.

“They (Waratahs) are pretty fast, and young, but we have got more than enough older guys that can stop them before they get going,” he said.

Earlier in the day Yenda showed enough flair and speed with the ball to defeat West Wyalong.

The Blueheelers were able to keep their arms free in the tackle and the resulting second phase play resulted in the first try for the blue and whites.

Ray Mauroudous made the most of a spilt West Wyalong pass, to race 20 metres and score under the posts with the easy conversion making the score 6-0.

Blueheelers fullback David Rauluni Junior then used his fancy footwork to slice through a small gap to extend the lead to 10.

Another try to Rauluni Jnr and one to his West Wyalong counterpart Jarrod Carruthers made the score 16-4.

Too many mistakes from West Wyalong coming out from its own half led to good field position for the Blueheelers, and another try that put the game out of the reach of the away side.

A busting run from Sam Loaloadram through some tired West Wyalong defence sealed the win for the Blueheelers.
