Playing with the away game disadvantage, Yenda pulled through with a comfortable margin, even without star player Lance Poka.
A weak season has seen Yenda slip down from its usually high position, with the Blueheelers fighting for finals contention.
Yenda’s Sam Panarello believes his side can work its way back to the top.
“I’ve been with Yenda for ten years, and I don’t remember us being this low on the ladder,” Panarello said.
“You start to lose confidence after two losses in a row, so it’s good to get a win.”
Panarello said there was a strong overall effort from the team.
“Jason Matthews played well, and we’ve got Trevor Richards going forward as usual,” he said.
“Dave Raulini was also very creative at half.”
But the upcoming game against the undefeated Leeton Greens will pose a real challenge to the Blueheelers.
“It’s a big test for us,” Panarello said.
“Maybe we’re not at Leeton’s level just yet, but we’ll see how we do.”
TLU coach John Hartley said his team were missing a few key players.
“We managed to get in front at times,” Hartley said.
“In the end the score blew out a bit.”
TLU were missing Jaden Kelly and captain-coach Troy Brose through injury before kick-off, severely limiting their backline cohesion.
In Brose’s place, Michael Mitchell was called up to the first grade side with Hartley rating the substitute’s performing under trying circumstances.
Hartley said his team will keep “grinding away”.
But next week’s game will be a worry for TLU, as the Yanco-Wamoon Hawks will be fired up after a convincing loss to the Waratahs yesterday.
