THE Group 20 community has been rocked with the news of the sudden passing of Yenda Blueheelers' player Ben Rahim on Sunday afternoon.
The Area News understands Rahim was visiting relatives in Fairfield in Sydney over the weekend when he went to sleep only to never wake up.
When Rahim did not surface, police and paramedics were called to the premises at 4pm on Sundayn, where the 33-year-old was unable to be revived.
Yenda veteran Trevor Richards, who spoke to Rahim's de facto partner on Monday morning, said the club and those who knew him were still coming to terms with the sudden nature of his death.
"I don't know too much at this stage, just what I have been told really," Richards said.
"She rang me the other morning to tell me what had happened so I could pass it onto the boss at work (Casella Wines)."
Making the matter more heartbreaking to those close to Rahim was his large family, which will now have to experience a Christmas without their father.
Rahim was a member of the Blueheeler's reserve grade side for much of his time at the club, but he also made several appearances in the top grade off the bench.
"To the best of my knowledge he does have some family up in Sydney. He does live here with his partner," Richards said.
"I gather he was there to visit, was a bit tired and lay down to have a sleep and didn't wake up.
"As far as we know there was no reason for this happen."
Richards said the entire club will feel his loss, saying he loved his rugby league and was the consummate clubman.
"He played with us for the last two seasons, mainly in reserves but he played a bit of first grade as well," Richards said of Rahim.
"Everybody knew Benny, and he was always a happy sort of guy around the club and was keen to help out.
"He was just a good person to have around the club and a good guy generally."
Police indicated Rahim's death did not appear suspicious and said a report will be made for the coroner.
