Milne suffered the tear before the Raiders pre-season game against the Broncos in Orange, but Raiders first grade coach Neil Henry said there was definitely still a place for Milne if he could force his way back into the side.
“I do see a place for David in the starting backline at some stage this year. He played 14 NRL games last season and gained valuable experience and confidence along the way,” Henry said.
“Unfortunately, he sustained an abdominal injury before our trial against the Broncos in Orange, which set him back three weeks.”
Henry said Milne’s ability to go looking for the ball, proved to be a valuable asset for the Raiders last year, and something he hoped to have at his disposal sooner rather than later.
“He proved last year that he is up to the challenge and was quite effective running from dummy half and has the ability to find the try line with good speed,” he said.
Henry said the former Griffith boy has made plenty of big strides in the improvement of his game over the off-season and if he could continue his learning curve, could secure a long-term place at the Raiders.
“David has worked on his defence as well as putting many hours into catching high balls as wingers certainly get targeted nowadays,” Henry said.
“David is fully aware that it takes a lot of commitment and desire to succeed at this level and has worked hard throughout the off season.
“If he can back up his pre-season training with good performances on the field he will certainly press for a first-grade starting position. He is a motivated individual, who will make the most of his opportunity when it arrives.”
