The call comes as the Greens notched up their fifth win of the season and after this round are the only unbeaten team in Group 20.
Despite doubling the Mallemen’s total, the Leeton leader said the score wasn’t a true reflection of how hard his side had to work for the points.
“We were a bit lucky in some respects, and I don’t think the end results was a proper indication of the game,” Rudd said.
“Our completion in the second half was pretty ordinary, it was only about 30 per cent and we practically had to defend for most of the first 20 minutes of the second half.”
Despite having their backs to the wall for much of the second half, Rudd said it was pleasing to still put a stack of points over an opposition, despite letting in a few tries against the run of play.
“Defensively I think we were pretty good, that and we had a few guys out with injury, and we lost Jacob Coot in the warm up,” Rudd said.
“He (Coot) hasn’t trained much in the last few weeks, but we gave him a run and I thought he would be fine, but he pulled up sore after the warm up and we thought it would be better not to risk him.”
However, Rudd said he wasn’t making excuses for the areas in which his side didn’t perform to its best, saying Leeton’s young players will need to learn how to shut teams out of
games.
“We have never really seemed to be able to push sides away, other than the Darlington Point game,” he said.
“We have started a bit of a habit of keeping sides in the game and that’s what I think we did again today, we seemed to take our foot off the pedal a bit.
“But I put that down to having a young side, Tim Del Guzzo is one of oldest guys at about 25.
“But I am still pretty happy, we’re still winning and guys like Jeremy Panuccio really stood up today.”
Panuccio was one of the stars for the Greens, crossing the stripe twice in his sides nine tries to five romp.
Despite the loss West Wyalong are still hanging onto the vital fifth place just ahead of Tullibigeal Lakes United on percentage.
