TULLIBIGEAL Lakes United captain-coach Jaden Kelly has made the startling admission his side is still lacking self-belief in the shadows of the Group 20 finals.
With just a month until the top five battle it out for premiership honours, Kelly said his side desperately needed to bounce back to form this weekend against Darlington Point-Coleambally, after its loss to West Wyalong last round.
"We speak about our self-belief all the time and that's one thing that's lacking," he said.
"You go through a year and have a bit of success and you can sometimes take it for granted that it will come along each week -you don't appreciate how hard you have to work to be successful in competitions like this.
"They'll (DPC) be playing for pride and they will want to knock off the side above them on the ladder obviously, but we really have to take it week by week now and start building on something so we can get a bit of momenteum."
The Roosters will be out to hand Tullibigeal its second loss in a row and disrupt its run into the finals, as DPC looks to build towards their tilt at the premiership in 2011.
With a month left of the regular season, the Roosters are now not even a mathematical possibility of making the top five, with last weekend's loss to Waratahs costing the side more than two points.
Despite 2010 being a case of so close yet so far for DPC, co-coach Tom Doubleday said his men were determined to provided serious nuisance value against side's still in the running for the title.
"If we have a couple of wins then we just sort of miss out on the five, but the top five is really close so it's not like if we miss out on the finals then you're a long way off," Doubleday said.
"(But) we had a really good turn out for training on Tuesday, but we're a good social club so all of the guys still enjoy coming and that was on the back of a really good show against Waratahs last week, we've just been a bit unlucky I think."
Kelly has been in superb form this season with at times acres of space behind a pack that can on its day be considered one of the best of the competition, and the Group 20 playmaker will be looking to form a potent combination with the versatile Michael Moglitotti, who has also been a stand-out for the Sharks in recent weeks.
The TLU coach has the unique job of being part psychiatrist and part on field leader for the Sharks this season, with Kelly revealing that many of his players are still lacking self-belief in the shadows of the finals.
