THERE will be more than just bragging rights on the line when the Yenda Blueheelers host the Leeton Greens with the first grade minor premiership and club championship up for grabs at Wade Park.
In a testament to how close the top sides have been this season, only a game and a half separates Waratahs, Leeton and Yenda in the title to be crowned the best club in Group 20. While on the back of red-hot form in the last month, the Blueheelers' first grade side has the chance to overtake the Tigers for the minor title and in the process book themselves a home final.
Standing in their way is a Leeton side that has been equally as impressive in the countdown to the finals, with Yenda coach Andrew Lavaka saying his team will need to take what they believe to be theirs on Sunday.
"We've played some good footy in the last month and dug deep when they have had to and it's paid off for us," Lavaka said.
"A lot of it comes down to the boy's attitude on the field and stepping up when they need to and believing in the guy next to them.
"There are plenty of leaders in our side and they're always giving some of the young guys advice, because it's a completely different side from last year, but it's all starting to work out for us."
Leeton leader Brad Purtell praised the metronomic form of five-eighth Clinton Green and hooker Adam Smith, and said his men were quietly confident of knocking off the Blueheelers, thanks largely to their consistent line-up. "He's (Green) playing really good footy at the moment and Andrew Smith at hooker has been awesome for us this year and deserved his spot in the Group 20," Purtell said.
