Griffith went to the limit and beyond in the quarter-final against a very fast Berkeley Vale side.
Griffith got the upper hand and crossed the line first, with a good try from Brandon Hey, with Chris Vaughan and Jake Forrester scoring the side’s next two tries.
Berkeley Vale fought back and it was a heart-stopping game that could go either way.
Ben Dossetor, Neerim Carroll and Cody Davis all crossed for a try apiece and with just second to go in the match, Griffith was up by one point.
Berkeley Vale then made a break and scored the winning try on the hooter with the final score reading 14-13.
Earlier in the tournament, the team was plagued with injury even before taking the field, with three players suffering painful ankle injuries, which all required frequent visits to the medical tent for heavy strapping.
In the first two rounds, Griffith had a close encounter with Nelson Bay, but went down four tries to three, followed by a loss to Manly five to two.
The third round saw Griffith come to life with a hard-fought win over Tamworth.
However, the boys were struck down with yet another ankle injury and had to have many substitutes for the blood bin.
They fought on like troopers and had a good win over Mudgee in their final game on Saturday.
Sunday morning saw them firing on all cylinders, with an impressive 8-2 win over Peakhurst ensuring them a spot in the finals.
They were pumped when they took the field for their first final against a very “pushy” Parkes team.
Ben Dossetor crossed the line for the first try of the match, and was quickly followed by Jake Forrester and Brandon Hey.
Parkes scored a few quick tries but Brandon Hey and Neerim Carroll finished off by scoring a try a piece to secure an 11-6 win.
