Laura’s successful year was recently topped off with a silver at the state titles. However, her performance was not the only one of note, with several other Griffith athletes taking on the best the state has to offer.
Samuel Villata finished fifth overall in the under 9 boys’ 100 metres, crossing the line in a time of 14.81 seconds.
Unfortunately brother Shaun finished seventh in the heats for the 100m in the under 11 division, to narrowly miss out on a place in the finals.
Long distance runner Patrick Rose again showed he has much promise, finishing fifth in the 800m in a time of 2.21 minutes.
Patrick also finished fifth in the 1500m, stopping the clock in a very respectable time of 4.51 minutes.
Teagan Carnell was also among the top place-getters in her age division, finishing fifth in the 400m and eighth in the long jump.
Rounding out the Griffith troupe that competed in Sydney was Joe Piato who finished 10th in the 200m in a result that will no doubt give him confidence going into next season’s events and beyond.
All of the children will again aim for state selection, this time through their respective school systems.
