WHILE they did not possess the same smash and grab attitude of their sprint counterparts, the drivers of the TEKA Endurance series showed they have a different, but impressive skill set at the Griffith track last weekend.
Crews of three drivers tested the limits of their concentration to complete 32 hours of driving across the two days with the number of laps completed simply mind-boggling.
With the faster four-stroke machines completing a lap about every 43 seconds, take away time for compulsory fuel stops and driver changes, each person completed 350 laps of the Tharbogang circuit, which meant each team completed around 2100 laps during the weekend.
Griffith Kart Club's Graham Winnel paid tribute to the endurance of the teams saying it was a different slant on the sprint events normally held at the local track.
"If you keep driving the same corners for the same amount of time, it's got to play a part on how you drive overall and your tactics as well," Winnel said.
"Their strategies would then come into play, and once they did that their cart would be in a different position to where they might actually be in the race.
"They were very good on the track the drivers with the three classes running, Briggs and Honda A and B, I had a blue flag for overtaking on the corner I was on and it got sore from being held out so often.
"I only had to show the yellow (caution because of crash) on the Saturday and I didn't flag on the Sunday, but it was very interesting watching them because you had the three classes that were running slightly different lap times."
