Grants lend a helping hand to young guns

30 Dec, 2011 12:00 AM
GRIFFITH'S sporting future looks to be in good hands with three rising stars being awarded with grants for their achievements.

Luke Tsantefskis, in soccer, Dana Biondo, in archery, and Samuel Villata, in AFL, have all secured the Local Sporting Champions grants after their successes in their chosen sport.

Member for Riverina Michael McCormack said the three athletes have done their region and town proud after representing in either state or national competitions.

"The Local Sporting Champions program is a great initiative aimed at providing funding for gifted athletes," McCormack said. "It's a program designed to help young people who may find it difficult to meet the ongoing and significant costs associated with participation at sporting competitions, particularly those from regional areas.

"The Riverina is renowned for producing sporting champions. Who knows, perhaps a recipient of these funds will one day go on to great things and this would have helped them along the way."
