Trimboli was declared the winner after his shot sailed 12.57 metres. However, Trimboli didn’t stop there, as he gathered top five finishes across an eclectic mix of field events including long jump, triple jump and discus.
Trimboli finished second in the state in the long jump, sailing 5.26 metres, while he soared further in the triple jump, finishing the competition in fourth place with a best jump of 10.60 metres.
Rounding out the meet, the 19-year-old literally took his turn as part of the discus event, tossing it more than 35 metres, guaranteeing the youngster a top-five place in all of his events.
An impressive effort, considering he doesn’t have a full-time coach, and has to fit his training around work.
“Everybody has to work and at the moment I’m working 12 hours a day and have to find time to train in between work,” Trimboli said.
Trimboli was only alerted to the State Championships a handful of weeks before he was scheduled to compete, and agreed if he had more time to prepare, he may have finished higher up the order in all of his events.
With the domestic athletic season nearing its end, Trimboli said he would try to launch an all-out assault next season, if he is able to gain the necessary funds to travel away and compete.
