THE Griffith Swans A grade netball side will be hoping to ambush Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong this weekend as they look to keep their white-hot form going.
With the Swans not able to field a full-strength side against the Lions earlier in the season, coach Karen Conlan is hoping they will be able to surprise the consistent GGGM outfit.
"They're a bit of an unknown because we haven't played them with a full side, but we're still pretty optimistic," Conlan said.
"There's no real stand-out players but they're quite a fast-running side and their wing attack is a bit of a key player for them and Maddy Tyson with have the job on her.
"I have had a chat to her (Tyson) and I think she's growing each week so I think she'll be able to handle that physical contest.
Conlan's quiet confidence was fuelled after her side disposed of Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes (MCUE) 49-40 last weekend on the back of a fast start.
Griffith jumped out to an uncustomary 12-goal lead at the end of the first quarter, with the Swans defenders Claire Irvin and Peta Larkin showing off all their skills.
"It should be a great place to be (early lead) but it was unchartered territory for us and I wondered how the girls would react to that," Conlan said.
"So I said to the girls all through the game 'you have to start the next quarter as if we're only beginning'.
"Peta's (Larkin) pretty young and her opposite number on the weekend towered over her but she did a really good job at blocking her out, but that gave Claire (Irvin) a really good chance to be one-on-one under the post.
"In that second quarter I felt like we were going into the game to defend the lead rather than play, I said to them at the quarter break that we had to go out there and play and continue to build."
Wing attack Ellen John gave plenty of direct leads for Conlan in the circle, with the coach combining well with Belinda Battistel, who's stronger role involved her driving into the circle which created confusion for the MCUE defenders.
Conlan said much of the team's success in recent weeks was due to its younger players finding their feet at the top level, but also paid tribute to Robyn Overs, who continued to show her younger teammates how its done.
"Robyn in the centre - she's extremely fit and fast and she's a major playmaker for us and she took a lot of intercepts for us even on the centre pass," Conlan said.
