Vearing takes stableford prize

10 Mar, 2010 10:49 AM
A VERY wet course made the Yenda Golf Club's match committee change the day's competition from the scheduled monthly medal and club's championships round to the monthly leagues members mug stableford, because the golf must go on.

Geoff Vearing made the most of the change to a stableford competition winning the top prize with a very impressive 41 points.

Vearing scored 23 points on the front nine including a four-pointer on the fourth and 18 on the back nine, with only two bogeys the entire round ensuring Vearing left runner-up Billy Johnson two points behind.

Johnson shot 23 out and 17 in for 39 points while Alan Howard was third in shooting 18 on both the front and back nine for 36 points.

Nearest the pin went to Chris Close with Vince Logiudice wining the ProPin.

Balls went down to 30 points on a count back.

Peter Morrison and Chris Close also both scored four-point holes with both doing so on the par three 7th.

March's monthly medal and the club championship first round have both been rescheduled for March 21.

The Yenda Vets stableford comp was taken out by Alex Niven last week with 37 points over Glen Neyland on 36 points.

Full results are available on the club website yendagolf.weebly.com.

The Yenda Vets tee off every Tuesday at 8.30am and visitors are always welcome.

With the second round of the singles matchplay now completed players still in the competition should begin to arrange their third round match.

Members are reminded the winter tee off time will be introduced from March 21 with the times being 8am until 8.30am.

A bus is being organised for the road trip to play the Yanco Social Golf Club at Leeton.

The cost of the bus will be $10 per person and interested players are asked to see Neil Pope for more information.

Next week the Blueheelers rugby league club will be holding their annual three person Ambrose day, with registration beginning at 7.15am for a shotgun start at 8am.

Cost is $20 which includes 18 holes of golf, a barbecue lunch and lots of prizes and drinks will also be available throughout the day.
