There is actually grass in the rough for the first summer for many years, which of course adds to golfers angst, with bad shots being punished big time.
The event last Saturday was a 4BBB stableford with 86 players and Denis Diehm, along with partner Andrew Cozens made a mockery of the tough going, combining to card the winning score of 52 points.
They put together a steady 24-point out, and then combined to shoot the lights out on the back nine, amassing 28 points home.
Cozens, playing off a 21 handicap, could do no wrong logging his name on the card sevens times, with five pars and a birdie on the 15th, to shoot 85 off the stick overall.
Diehm was only on the card twice on the back nine, but drained a decisive four-point birdie on the 12th.
Runners-up Jason Magoci and Anthony Ross were in the mix after also scoring 24 points out with the big hitting Magoci, playing off a four handicap, canning birdies on the first, and the ninth, while Ross slotted one home on the eighth.
They were still up to speed on the back nine, Magoci birdied both the 15th and 17th, but their shorter handicaps found them out, carding 25 points home for a 49 point total.
The Bonetti boys, Greg and Mark continue to shine, coming home in third place with a card of 48 points.
Greg was the mainstay, canning birdies on the fifth and seventh, in their 24-point front nine, while Mark filled in with two pars.

However one pointers on the ninth, 10th, and the 18th cost them a higher finish.
They pushed John Gale and Allan Foster out of a place on a countback.

THE appeal to golfers to take more care in repairing their green pitch marks is falling largely on deaf ears.
Most greens are resembling lunar landscapes and with all the social members playing in the Super Sevens, perhaps an answer would be for the Club, through the Pro Shop, issue them all with a pitch mark repairer.
