GOLFERS sent the old year out with a blast, playing in the New Year's Eve single stableford at the Griffith Golf Club last Saturday. It was an ideal day for scoring with a slight breeze, run on the fairways and flat putting surfaces greeted the 92 players who took full advantage.
There were ridiculous scores in C grade with Gerard Bartter making a mockery of his 30 handicap, firing 88 off the stick to amass 49 points.
He went out in 46 strokes for 23 points then added six three-pointers and a four-point par on the 18th, shooting 42 home for 26 points.
Andrew Oates had every right to feel a bit hard done by, playing off 22, he carded 47 points which was only good enough for runner-up. He carded four point pars on the second and third in scoring 24 points out then scored 23 in, with another four-point par on the 12th firing 82 off the stick.
Wayne Bottcher won A grade after firing 77 off the stick for a card of 42 points.
He scored 19 points out then shot the lights out on the back nine, home in par 36, canning birdies on the 10th, 11th, and 17th. Runner-up Barry Stapleton finished one back on 41 points, shooting 74 off the stick.
He drained a birdie on the eighth in a 20-point front nine then added another on the 18th coming home in one over par 36 for 21 points.
Steve Richards, B grade's best on 41 points rescued his front nine with a four-point birdie on the ninth to score 19 points out, then added another on the 17th for 22-point in firing 80 off the stick.
Runner-up Shane Sibraa with 38 points started well, carding 20 points out, then scored 18 home, a miss on the 17th costly.
Pro pins to Alf Franchi and Daniel Johns. Par threes to fourth Andrew Oates, seventh Garry Hartnett, 11th Darryl Graham, 16th Trevor Richards with vouchers going to 36 points.
Members are reminded that annual subscriptions are now due and must be paid by January 31.

Members are also reminded that the qualifier for the Red Gum Plate will be played on Sunday, January 29.
Summer Sevens players are also advised competition resumes this coming Monday, January 9 with it being round 11. Finals are close by and with tight finishes in all leagues, players need to be on their game.
The event on Saturday is a two-person ambrose with a single stableford on Sunday.
Last Sunday's New Year's day single stableford suffered from the previous night's celebrations with only eight players fit enough to contest.
Brad Fawcett was the best on the day carding 37 points after he drained a birdie on the eighth to score 20 out and 17 home. Runner-up Darryl Graham kept his head down, carding 19 out and 17 in for 36 points.
David Kidd and Skeet Milne won vouchers.
There were 34 players in last Thursday's pro shop-run veterans competition, enough for two grades.
Hamilton visitor Brad McLean won 0-18 carding 41 points ahead of Scott Simpson 40 points.
The 19-36 grade was won by Bill Carter on 37 points, Bill O'Connor runner-up 36 points.
Vouchers won by Gerry Cox, Dallas Bibby, Ryan Salvestro, Kevin McKenna, Paul D'Arcy, Martin Sweeney, John Tarr and Reg Gilbert.

The official 2012 season kicks off tomorrow, January 5 with a single stableford with added club vouchers for scores of 36 points or better.
A solid field of 75 players contested last Wednesdays Pro Comp, a single stableford.
Wayne Bottcher took out A grade on 39 points.
He blitzed the front nine, canning a birdie on the seventh to fire one over par 37 out for 23 points and he crashed on the first five holes on the back nine, only scoring seven points, however, he salvaged his round by parring the last four holes to card 16 points in. A miss on the ninth proved costly for runner-up Paul D'Arcy, slipping to 17 points out, then came home in two over par 37 for 21 points and 38 overall on a countback.
Leeton visitor Domenic Del Guzzo enjoyed his day on the course, carding a slashing 45 points to easily win B grade.
He birdied the ninth to go with three pars in carding 22 points out added another birdie on the 15th to card 23 points in.
Runner-up Stephen Crowe missed on the sixth then bounced back with a birdie on the seventh to score 20 points out , scoring on every hole to card 19 home on 39 points overall.
Shane Sibraa went around in 87 strokes to take out C grade on 40 points with 20 on each nine with six pars.
Runner-up Graeme Gifford looked a winner after a 22-point front nine, including a four-point par on the fourth.
Gifford then thought he carded another four-point par on the 12th, only scramble 16 home to total 38 points.
Vouchers went to 35 points on a countback.
Reminder, the Yenda Vets will now tee-off at 7am next Tuesday.
