05 Mar, 2010 11:06 AM
THE Summer Sevens golf is coming to the business end of the competition with this week's round being the last of the general competition.

The qualifying round for the finals will commence on March 15 followed by the semi-finals to commence on March 22 and the grand finals on March 30.

With only small margins separating teams in all divisions, there should be a surge of players returning cards this week to consolidate their team's chances of participating in the finals.

There were 425 counting cards returned in last week's round with one of the season's high numbers of 126 Pro Shop rewards handed out.

John Cafe won the weekly highest score prize, carding 26 points pushing an unlucky Nathan Vearing into second place also with 26 points on a countback.

Jim Mullins and Robert Corkery, also played well to score 24 points, closely followed by Russ Raymond with 23 points.

Corkery was the week's keenest player with three card rewards with the cut off for rewards being 18 points.

Robert Cavallaro looks set to take out Player of the Year on 53 points, holding a handy seven-point lead over Peter Sinca (46), closely followed by John Grehan (45).

There are a number of players on 39 but they will all have their work cut out to catch Cavallaro.

Wendy Snaidero looks set to be a runaway winner in the ladies section, opening up a 12-point lead over Suzanne Alpen 33 to 21.

Jennifer Verri is next on 19 followed by Jenni Riley, Wendy Murwood and Anne Thacker (18).

Cavallaro also looks a lay-down misere to take out the Biggest Loser with a reduction of 36, there is daylight second to Justin Whitehead (25) and Jason Allen (21), while early leader Matt Ahamana is out of conetention on 18.

Wendy Murwood and Wendy Snaidero look set to fight out for the ladies loser prize, both with a reduction of 16.
