THE event for Griffith Golf Club members last Saturday was a single stableford, with 92 players and a CCR of 69.
Graeme Trevett peppered the pins, to be the best in A grade by carding 41 points, one point ahead of runner-up Craig Tilston on 40 points.
Albert Ravanello saw his way around the course best in B grade, taking first place by carding 41 points, ahead of runner-up Dallas Bibby with 39 points.
The day’s top achiever after almost two years of being lost among the trees and rough was John Bortolazzo, who carded 45 points for a long overdue win in C grade.
He has lopped three shots off his handicap and is now back in B grade.
Bortolazzo fired 40 off the stick on the front nine, carding 25 points out, canning a four-point par on the fourth and though slipping to 44 off the stick on the back nine, carded 20 points home.
Runner-up in C grade was Robin Salvestro who carded 39 points.
Pro Pins to Barry Stapleton and Paul Piccoli, par three's to fourth J Auld, seventh M Wiltshire, 11th Roy J Calabria, 16th Neil Mahaffey and Daniel Johns won the final voucher on 35 points on a countback.
MEMBERS are reminded that the green renovations will be carried out next Wednesday and the course will be closed on that day.
The usual Wednesday Pro Competition has been brought forward to next Tuesday.
Volunteers are needed on Monday to clean up the greens and people with leaf blowers are required, as well as people able to rake up grass and remove it.
No volunteers are required next Wednesday when the renovation takes place.
Members are also advised that both the men’s and women’s toilets will be renovated, with work to start during the last two weeks in August.
The men’s renovation will take two or three weeks and the club will hire “Kenny” and his portable toilets to help the situation.
Members should access the club website for further information in regards to the bar upgrade, bar price rises and the prepaid credit system.
Also information on green fee and competition price increases due to come in on August 1.
There is an error in regards to vets competition fees; they will rise to $9 from August 1 not $10, but they will increase to $10 on January 1, 2009.
THE event on Saturday is the August monthly medal day, a Bunnings single stroke with a single stableford on Sunday.
Sunday will also see three Griffith pairs contesting the MFS NSW 4 BBB Playoff at Finley.
Coming up next month is the Cappello and DeLuca Mixed Foursomes Championship played over 27 holes.
Last Sunday’s event was a single stableford with 40 players and a CCR of 71 and the overcast day reflected the scores with Darryl Graham and Jason Magoci both carding 36 points in A grade, with Graham taking the countback.
Robert Harrington carded the day’s best score to take out B grade on 39 points from Jim Dickie runner-up 37 points on a countback.
Barry Northeast and Peter Clark both scored 36 points in C grade and Northeast’s better back nine saw him declared winner on a countback.
Vouchers went to 33 points on a countback.
THERE were 40 vets playing in their weekly single stableford last Thursday, on a fine day with a CCR of 73.
With enough players for two grades, scoring was at a premium and Tony Colpo won the 0-19 division, carding a modest 35 points ahead of Peter Den Houting 34 points and Bill Tyndall 33 points on a countback for third.
Little run on the course saw similar scores in division two, with Dino Battocchio the best on 34 points on a countback from Stewart Broome 34 points and Stewart Irving third 32 points.
Vouchers went to 31 points on a countback.
Tomorrow’s event is a single stableford in three grades.
VETS are advised that their competition will be as usual on August 7.
Last Wednesdays Pro Competition, was a Four Person Ambrose with 64 players.
The winners, combining for a card of 55 nett were Joe Cudmore, Allan Foster, Col Leeson and Noel Foley.
In second place less than a shot behind on 55 3/8 nett were Ric Laurent, Jason Magoci, Col Vearing and Trevor Richards.
Third place went to Chris Scobie, Peter McPherson, Lance Perry and Mathew Hallam and vouchers went to 58 2/3 nett.
