THE Senior sportspeople for June and July are Brenton Byrne and Bart Brighenti after the pair picked up state titles in their respective fields.
In June Byrne won the middleweights colts division at the Victorian full contact Kyokushin karate titles after overcoming a tough opponent in the final.
Brighenti proved why he is one of the region's premier marksmen after winning the Sporting Shooters Five-Stand State Titles after also representing the region at the World FITASC Sporting championships in Italy.
The Griffith City Sports Council junior sportspeople of the month for June and July are Zac Zanesco and Michelle Connelly after the duo excelled on the track and in the pool respectively.
Zanesco claimed the best result in his already glittering competitive career when he finished second at the Festival of Champions in England.
Heading into the meeting, which attracts the best junior riders from across the world, Zac had an impressive pedigree but admitted he would have to pull out his best rides in order to secure one of the coveted trophies.
Connelly claimed a gold and bronze medal at the National School Sports Swimming Championships in Brisbane that capped off a selection process that started back in February this year.
Griffith continued its fearsome reputation at the Country Cup titles with the region's under 16s girls picking up the prestigious crown to be the Sports Council team of the month for June.
The side had to dig deep at several points over the hectic weekend, with playing depth tested with several younger players from the under 14s side helping out their elder counterparts, but coach Mike Scobie paid tribute to all in his side, saying they showed fighting spirit to come home with the title.
Griffith City Football Club's first grade side is the team of the month for July after they reached the State Cup grand final.
After getting an easy ride through the minor rounds of the knockout competition, the newest club in the city proved they deserved to play with the big boys when they won through to the decider against Gwawley Bay, where unfortunately they were outclassed 3-0, but still clung onto the honour of being the first Griffith side to make the state-wide final.
The Sports Council Clubperson for June is Warren Brown for his tireless work with the shooting community in the region.
Brown is not content to just be a competitor but he is also busy behind the scenes working as an administrator.
The clubperson for July is Griffith Swans vetern Jeff Mickan who recently celebated his 200th game in the top grade, with the likable clubman receiving praise from the Swans' community for his contributions over the years.
