WITH only one week remaining, Stoneleigh appears to be almost certain of taking out the Griffith Leagues Club B grade minor premiership.
Giesen and Maven hold second and third spots but that could change as there are only two points separating the two teams.
Tomorrow night should see a battle-royale for the last semi-final berth, with Babich on 178, Seresin on 176 and Nautilus on 174. Last week Babich only lost by one point to competition leader Stoneleigh, so is likely to hang on to fourth spot.
Craig Tilston and Ryan Petrov provided the match of the night with Petrov suffering his first defeat of the competition.
Tilston played his best squash to win the first game 9-1 before Petrov recovered to win 9-3, 9-6.
The following two games produced the longest rallies of the entire competition, with Tilston claiming victory 10-9 in the fifth.
Max Oliver evened the score by defeating Steve Phillips in another marathon with Oliver full of energy as a result of Babich’s secret training session. Maven had a convincing 26-15 win against Nautilus, who are struggling without its best player.
Morena Violi starred after losing her own game and moving up a line to defeat Peter Centofanti 9-6 in the fifth game.
John Dalton also put in an impressive display to defeat Livio Mazzon, who will no doubt claim jet lag after returning from his big trip. Seresin was down three players and slipped from top-spot to fifth rung on the ladder.
Giesens’s Alistair Ratcliff put in a super performance to put an end to Carissa Benton’s undefeated run, while Jason Allen and Mirco Gatti were the only winners for Seresin.
Tomorrow night the No. 4 players start at 6pm followed by the No. 3 players at about 6.30pm, while Stoneleigh is on Snack Attack.
