Joggers do their city proud

27 Oct, 2008 08:33 AM
Congratulations to three Griffith joggers who took part in the Melbourne Marathon recently, led home as expected by the highly experienced Theresa Burgess in a time of three hours and 37 minutes.

As well as runs over all distances and terrains across the country, this was her eighth Melbourne Marathon.

For Arun Tiwari (5 hours, 17 mins) and Glenys Greenaway (4 hours, 1 min) it was their first, and Tiwari was deservedly proud of his effort and had his medal on display on the hill for all to admire along with his marathon shirt messaged and signed by the legendry “Deek”.

Greenaway went with no real expectations and said she hit the wall at 39km, but she still made it across the finish line in a very respectable time.

BACK on the hill this week, Anthony Forlico showed extra spirit and fitness in promoting himself to his first long course effort and went home with a win under his belt finishing a minute clear of Craig Rawlinson in second and four minutes ahead of the bulk of the field.

Rawlinson lined up for his second run with the joggers and this time managed to finish on the correct track, and also well ahead of the field, so the two might have attracted the attention of the handicapper.

A long awaited podium place went to the stalwart Dom Calabria who has missed many runs due to illness, weddings and holidays, but look out because he is on the comeback.

Calabria might have been spurred on by the honour of the recent signposting of the famous Doms Dilemma track.

Fletcher and Paul Josling started five minutes apart and finished five seconds apart at fourth and fifth, with Paul getting fitter now that he has tossed the cricket he loved for the jogging he hates.

In sixth place, Ben Forner took valuable points in his quest for the Arsova competition trophy, which is just one week away from concluding, and he has a lead of forty points.

Glenys Greenaway ran well just a week after her marathon for seventh and the always-reliable Graeme Lyons was eighth.

Devansh Tiwari was inspired by his dad to put in one of his quickest runs for ninth, as well as making the milestone of 1000km with the Joggers

THE podium for the 47-strong short course was dominated by the Quade and Brooker families this week, with Jacob, Levi and Peter Quade finishing first, fifth and sixth and Craig and Isaac Brooker taking home second and third.

Jeanette Codognotto showed no fear of an increased handicap and again ran well to get fourth, while Ayla Rudgley and Anthony Trefilo at seven and eight scored the fastest times.

At the rear of the field there was maiden feral runs from the tiny tot twins with a great running pedigree, Celia and Joseph Bellicanta

The Joggers run from the green water tower at 5.30pm every Saturday – rain or dust, heat or hail.
