Henderson ordered to sit out two games

THE Gold Coast Titans season goes from bad to worse, with news forwards Michael Henderson and Matt Cross were rubbed out by the NRL judiciary on Monday night.

Henderson was one of three Titans to appear before the ruling panel over lifting tackles resulting from the side’s 46-4 loss last round against Canberra.

Henderson’s visit to the judiciary was his first, after being hit with a grade two dangerous throw charge for his clumsy attempt on Raiders centre Joel Monaghan in the 77th minute last weekend.

At a press conference yesterday, Titans coach John Cartwright said it was a tough time for the club in the next month, but a challenge he was confident his players could rise to.

“We’re remaining positive, we have had to make a few changes, but we just have to grin and bear it,” Cartwright said.

The Gold Coast leader said Henderson was unlucky to be rubbed out for two games given his previously clean record at the judiciary, but said they couldn’t risk challenging the charge and losing him for a possible three games.

“Hendo’s tackle probably looked worse than it was and I didn’t think there was much in the other one,” he said.

“No-one is shying away from the task at hand, nobody has dropped off in training they are all training really well, so we just have to go down there (Melbourne) and do the job.”

The Gold Coast’s forward stocks will be boosted for the game against the Storm after Anthony Laffranchi was cleared by the judiciary, with Cartwright announcing yesterday that Brad Meyers would be called up to cover one of the spots left vacant by Henderson and Cross, with another starter to be named later in the week.
