Hanwood Juniors 6

Yoogali FC 0

HANWOOD Juniors women's side has continued its impressive form through the first round of the Griffith and District competition, with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Yoogali Football Club at Noe Santolin Oval last weekend.

The side's emergence in the competition this year has created one of the most exciting seasons in recent years, with Hanwood joining Norths, Yenda and Yoogali Soccer Club as real competition threats.

While the scoreline was one-sided at the end of the game, Yoogali was impressive in the opening minutes, as they pushed forward to try and secure its second win of the season.

Despite not being able to find the back of the net, they gave the Hanwood side several scares as they threatened to go a goal up early.

But once Hanwood Juniors found its rhythm, goals came in a steady stream and they pulled away, to secure equal top spot with Norths after 11 rounds.

Hanwood Juniors coach Matt Bugno said his side was made to work hard for the win, but was happy with their execution in front of goal when they got the chance. "They (YFC) were pressuring us and they had a few opportunities as well but we had a pretty strong defensive game," Bugno said.

"We got back to basics and tried to keep the ball on the ground and passing it between themselves was probably their biggest asset on the weekend. "It's good where are getting some good results against other tops clubs, but Norths, Yenda and even the Leagues club side (YSC) are looking pretty dangerous, so it's good to see the comp being more even across the board."

Anita Cimador bagged a double for Hanwood as they led 3-0 going into half-time as the score started to grow in the second stanza with Elisa Trimboli, Emily Amaro and Rebecca Perry also getting on the scoresheet.

Bugno predicted that if YFC can continue its rate of improvement they will soon also be a force in the local competition.
