GRIFFITH Blacks coach Ashley Gunn has urged his side to "maintain the rage" as it fights for Southern Inland Rugby Union survival tomorrow at Albury.

The Blacks will tackle Tumut in a second straight sudden-death semi, and Gunn conceded unless the Griffith side dramatically upped its intensity, it could in for an early Mad Monday.

"We will certainly have to improve on what we did last week," Gunn said.

"We have to be more focused and more desperate. We need to come out with the right attitude and be fired up."

When the two sides met in the second round, Tumut snuck home 44-30 at Griffith.

Gunn said the experience and mobility of Tumut's forward pack could prove his side's biggest challenge.

"They have a strong back row and some old heads in the front row," he said.

"Paul Roache is their go-to man and he's won the best and fairest for the competition a few times.

"We really need to attack them around the fringes of the ruck and muscle up in defence."

Griffith will be without inside centre Drew Braithwaite, who is expected to miss the clash with a hamstring injury.

Teenage backman Zac Bristow will slot into the centres while Dave Pasin will come off the bench and onto the wing.

In last week's first elimination semi-final, the Blacks accounted for Wagga City 41-25.
